Very nice! But out of curiosity what temp is your freezer? I have one that I keep at -20* F. A lot colder than a frigerator freezer. Thanks Ray
A terrific and very helpful article, but one important method of freezing wasn't mentioned: vacuum sealed bags. With so many people owning Food Savers and other brands of vacuum-sealing machines specifically for freezing purposes, can you offer any general comments on how this may extend the freezer life of foods covered in your charts?
Hi, CharlesNYC. While it is true that vacuum-sealed bags will last longer than the chart times listed, there are no hard and fast rules as to a specific amount of time. It all depends on cooked or not cooked and type of product that is being frozen. We suspect that vacuum sealers come with such specifics, perhaps in an instruction booklet.
Spring of 2023 and egg prices were through the roof. I did an experiment. I took a raw egg and positioned it with the large end up in a small tupperware which would hold it straight up. I poked a small hole in the large end of the egg with an ice pick. I put it in the freezer. A few days later I took it out of the freezer. Allowed some time for it to thaw. I then put a raw egg and this previously frozen egg side by side in my frying pan. Only difference was appearance. The raw egg yolk flattened out some after cracking into the pan. The previously frozen egg yolk stayed spherical. Absolutely no difference in taste. The frozen egg would also work just fine for any other type of baking or cooking. So there you have it - it is entirely possible to freeze eggs!

I didn't see anything in this article about blanching. I always blanch my garden vegetables before freezing. I think it helps preserve taste for the long run and even makes the look better. I do blanch tomatoes before freezing to remove the skins and chop them up to fit flat in the freezer bag. There are blank address sticky labels available to mark the date and item with before freezing. I freeze my bacon but use parchment paper and freeze them in three strips that way I don't have to thaw out the whole pack to get a few pieces. I use rubber bands to fasten on the original label and keep them in a nice little pack.
Approximately how long will it take to freeze these individual pans of blueberries?
In your guideline it says for cooked meat 2to 3. Does this mean years ? Thanks
