This blackberry soup must be delicious; can't wait to try it !!!
When we bought our home 40 yrs. ago, there was a wild blackberry stand on one side. The builder said "Don't worry about the thorns - I'll get rid of them" to which I replied "OVER MY DEAD BODY!!" These wild blackberries have given me gallons of delicious fruit. I fertilize once a year, and don't need to mulch as oak leaves from the nearby tree do the job well. Also, a forest of lovly cinnamon ferns have covered the patch, thriving in the oak leaf mast. I forage like a bear when the berries are ripe, and have to remind myself daily to save berries for jam, muffins, pie... Now I will try the blackberry soup as our berries are ripe as I write this. Do I have to dig out wandering canes? Yes. But it's worth it. That builder might do well to grow some blackberries of his own. He'd think twice about offering to tear them out when they occur naturally on a property.
