I’m here in eastern Oregon. I lived on the western side of the cascades and never saw a mourning dove. I know have mourning doves! Their soft coo brings warmth to my heart every time.
I live in Denton, Texas and we have tons of these mourning doves in our locale. They frequent our bird feeder and seem to prefer sunflower seeds.
My grandmother always told me when you hear a morning dove cooing they are calling for rain...And my grandmother was usually right...Because sometime during the day or night it would rain or a thunderstorm...My grandmother was raised on a farm so they went by so many ways..She told me a lot of things of what they believed when farming...So did my grandfather he also was raised on a farm...And alot that they told me I go by today...
I live in Massachusetts. Attract mourning doves with thistle scattered on the ground
The mourning dove in my yard makes a strange call. Coo ca coo coo.. very fast. Like Morse code. I've never heard one make this call. It is NOT like any of the calls listed. She sits on top of the power pole making this call all day.
I live in SC near the NC state line and have mourning doves all spring and summer and into the fall season.
On second thought maybe it's an owl. I've heard and seen Mourning Doves here before. They sound similar but after reading it seems they come out in the daytime.
In DFW ( Texas) I can hear a Mourning Dove right now at 3:05am. I haven't heard one in a long time maybe about two years. I love the sound and this one started at 12am.
Heard a mourning dove this day February 16, 2023. Pindall, Arkansas. Seems a tad early, but then our groundhog did not see it's shadow
