What’s in store for a Canadian springtime? Here are the weather predictions from The 2026 Old Farmer’s Almanac Canadian Edition.
General Weather Report for Canada
Please note that this spring forecast reflects weather deviations from normal for the spring months of April and May. For more details about the forecast, check out The 2026 Old Farmer’s Almanac Canadian Edition.
April/May 2026 Temperatures
As our colorful map reflects, spring will bring cooler-than-normal temperatures for most of the country—British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan—through Ontario. Quebec will also experience cooler-than-normal weather for this time of year.
Other Canadian regions will experience seasonal to warmer-than-normal temperatures, including the Yukon Territory and the Southern Prairies. In Atlantic Canada, we’ll see warmer temperatures for western areas, including Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
April/May 2026 Precipitation
Much of the country will also be wetter than usual. This includes the western Prairies through British Columbia and into the Yukon and NWT. Newfoundland and Labrador, and southeastern Quebec will also see above-normal precipitation.
Otherwise, precipitation will be below normal in the heart of Canada, southeastern Ontario (above the Great Lakes), and western Atlantic Canada, including Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
Regarding regional highlights, the Canadian Almanac focuses on where most of the population resides, i.e., southern to central Canada. See our regional map if you are unfamiliar with the five regions we cover.
Region 1: Atlantic Canada
April and May will be warmer and drier in the east, while the west will be cooler with above-normal precipitation. Look for rainy and snowy periods in April, with scattered showers in May.
Region 2: Southern Quebec
April and May will be cooler and wetter than normal. April will bring snow and rain, while May will bring periods of scattered thunderstorms.
Region 3: Southern Ontario
Expect the weather to be cooler than normal, with above-normal precipitation in the north and below-normal precipitation in the south. Rain and snow are expected in April, with scattered thunderstorms in May.
Region 4: The Prairies
April and May will be cooler than normal, with precipitation above normal in the east and greater than normal in the west. Expect a little snow in early April, as well as periodic rainstorms in May.
Region 5: Southern British Columbia
This far-west province will have slightly cooler-than-normal temperatures in April and slightly above-normal temperatures in May. Precipitation will be well above normal for the region with ongoing rainy periods.

Hi Rae,
Our forecasts for Canada consist of the southern areas of the country. For instance, our monthly breakdowns is for Southern Ontario. When looking at the map, that is represented by the Warm, Dry area (orange) in the northern part of Southern Ontario and Normal Temps, Wet (dark green) in the southern part of that area. We expect it to be Cool, Dry across the rest of the province for Spring (April–May) but do not put together monthly breakdowns of the temperature and precipitation deviations from normal, which is why you only see a writeup for Southern Ontario in the text.
Hope this helps explain it!
