How Much Turkey Does a Person Eat Per Year?

A group of turkeys is called a rafter🤪
So if the 2 turkeys in my freezer is considered a group, then I have a rafter of turkeys in my freezer!
It's late and I'm getting silly. I should go to bed!
More facts - these turkeys that are so beautiful and amazing are also brutally treated in factories. Their bodies are mutilated, they have been bred to be so big they cannot stand on their own legs, and they are unable to mate as a result. They live in horrific conditions I wouldn't want my worst enemy to live in. If you eat turkey, and then say you are love them, you are a hypocrite. Learn about their fate first. Learn about what you are eating. Stop ignoring the big picture, Almanac.com!
I raised some heritage turkeys this year and fell in love. They are so curious and used to follow me everywhere. When I met some broad breasted whites (standard domestic turkeys), I found that they spoke a completely different language than my Tom’s. I couldn’t understand a word they said! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Wild turkeys fly. Poults can fly at a very early age, which is why they survive. Domestic turkeys get too heavy to fly.
If you cock-a-doodle-doo to a turkey it will gobble gobble back at you.
We have so many Turkeys around here that they out number us humans at times. Imagine waking up and having 25-50 Turkeys in your front yard, by the door; or driving so slow because the Turkeys will not move out of the road. Unfortunately, we also have people who drive too fast, but the Turkeys are not phased.
The majority are wild with the exception of folks who raise them for food. I wish our area would adopt turkey crossing signs in the busy areas...like where they graze for food and water. Most people marvel at the wild cats that live in the area, but my favourite neighbour by far is our Turkey folks!
How fun!!!!
I admit it. I love wild turkeys and I feed them enough corn to be sure they have a little bit of extra energy for our horrible Quebec winters! Especially if there is a layer of ice! They are in trouble in that case and really need help. I have seen them treed for 3 days, waiting for it to be safe to manoeuvre on the ground. Contrary to this article, they are quite easy targets … the reason they were virtually wiped out! Quebec has stupidly opened up both spring and fall hunting. We shall see what happens. This year then local flock managed to produce a dozen chicks between 2 hens. Wonderful mothers!
The article states,
"How Much Turkey Does a Person Eat per Year?
The average person in the United States will eat 15 pounds of turkey this year."
Okay, that is on Thanksgiving day! What about for the entire year? :-D
