Why Americans still change the clocks twice a year and the push to end DST

Why is this so hard? Just leave it at standard time because that’s the way it’s supposed to be. I have much trouble sleeping and the time change just plays havoc with that. The half hour idea is silly. I wish the state of Oregon would just get smart and leave it at standard time. They’ve tried, but they need to get Washington and California to go along with them for some reason. Hawaii and Arizona can do it. Why can’t the rest of us? I also feel bad for the kids. One of the time changes plunges them into darkness when they’re trying to get to school. How safe is that?
I also live in a city that gets very hot the majority of the summer. So having daylight longer just makes it stay hot longer, which makes you use more air-conditioning. If we have to get lawmakers involved, let’s get it going! We need to write to all the state senators and maybe even Congress and keep bugging them until they do something about it.
In an effort to compromise with states that prefer DT vs ST. Why don’t we adopt a new permanent time of one half hour between times?? I think it’s ridiculous that this is so hard??
We have dst now...the change would be November through February, NOT a viable option. People may not like semi annual time change but they like winter dst LESS. Tried in the 70s, people rebelled against going to work and school in darkness of night. All medical opinion, inc. AMA, recommends PERMANENT STANDARD TIME. Sunshine Protection Act not good legislation, passed during a consent agenda w/o debate. Momentum is going toward standard time. Saturday Evening Post survey of readers reported in May/June 2025 issue: 74% prefer YEAR ROUND STANDARD TIME. Either we keep present system with semi annual time change, or go to year round standard time. Year round dst not a viable option.
You can add Mexico to countries that have gone to permanent standard time.
I prefer standard time we were on standard time for 50 years we didn't need to change it. I want more light in the morning.
I sleep better n can get up easier when it's on standard time n my body feels better. Do u know how are it was to get kids to bed when the sun is still have way up in the sky. My kids were in elementary school then so I just started putting them to bed at 10 when it was dark n they could go to sleep then.
I was a junior in high school and still rode the bus in 1974 when they decided to stay on DST through the winter that year. Going to the bus stop in pitch blackness was scary and as the above article says, it was widely unpopular and they stopped doing it the next winter. If you talk to the folks who live in Arizona, they like the Standard time and would never go for DST. Even doctors say it's better for our health to stay on Standard time. If the powers that be and the people of America would just give it a real thought and talk to us folks who lived thru 1974 you would all say "stay on Standard Time!"
Before I retired, I prefered standard time because it was lighter in the morning and easier for me to wake up. Now I don't really care. I wish the government would actually take definitive action and put an end to it!
Change it 30 minutes and be done with it.
This. Within reason, I don't care what the timezone is as long as it stays put.
I'm FOR DST stop changes
