1/2 cup hot-pepper jelly
1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard

3/4 to 1 pound mini smoked sausages

1 pound ground chuck
1/2 pound ground veal
1/2 pound hot or mild Italian sausage meat, removed from casings
3/4 cup fine Italian-style bread crumbs or plain cracker crumbs
1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/4 teaspoons anise seed, preferably crushed (optional)
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1/3 cup milk
olive oil, if panfrying
