There was nothing in the directions when to add the baking soda.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a saucepan, melt butter, add sugar, hot applesauce, and eggs.
Sift together flour, baking soda, and spices and add to the mixture.
Bake in an 11x13-inch pan for 45 to 50 minutes at 350 degrees F.
I usually sift it into the flour.
What is hot applesauce? The kind with red hots in it?
No, they are referencing temperature. You should heat this applesauce up before adding it to the recipe.
hello again.....I did make this cake and it is very flavorful. Also, it is a very dense cake....almost like a gingerbread.....so now the pan size makes more sense 11X13. I did NOT use that size...instead I went with a 8X13 glass pan.....but when I make this again (which I will) I will use the larger pan. The neighbors & family members I shared this with have given me rave reviews. (and FYI....my name is KENDA.....you added an R to my name in your response). :)
your recipe calls for a 11X13 inch pan for this recipe.....that's huge? maybe a misprint?
Hi, Kendra. You will notice that this recipe is labeled as “user submitted.” Back when our site was new, we allowed our readers to upload their own recipes, so this one does not come from our archives. While 11”x13” does sound big, you’ll notice this cake does have high volume ingredient measurements like 3 cups of flour and 2 cups of applesauce. If you want to make it in a different size pan, you will need to adjust the cooking time.
