Hi, Charles,
The best days depend on what tradition you go by, and the interpretation of the astrologer. Our astrologer has determined that April 5 and 6 are the absolute best days to plant root crops in 2024, based on the Moon's phase, astrological sign, and other factors. But, if you were to go just by the Moon's phase, for example, which is another tradition, then root crops are usually planted when the Moon is waning, often considered as from the day after full to the day before new (April 1-7 and 24-30 in 2024).

The ground is NOT frozen everywhere in January. The Almanac expects us to use common sense.
