Raccoons might be cute, but they’re no good for your garden: here are tips on how to remove them from your yard.
Keep Raccoons Away from Your Crops
I have wild life, in abundance with big fat raccoons, I have a fence but stll needed someting else. I plant marigolds in abundance in. and around my gardent, and throughout the yard. I dont remove the dead plants, I let them drop the seeds , then in the spring I move the excess to areas the seed isnt able to take on its own. Works wonders. Doesnt work on birds, so I have windchimes in the garden for them which works great for birds eating seedlings. And three dimensional Owls for squirrels, hung from a rope so they move with the wind.
I really wish no one would suggest wind chimes for anything! They are banned in several complexes for a reason.
They are a real maddening thing to listen to. Especially because they ring day and night 24/7 The sound travels so far and its like having ringing ears. Some are huge and clang like when throwing things into a pickup truck and can actually be heard even when inside.
When you live in a multi unit type place for instance, can you imagine if everyone had them? A tiny ringing would be magnified to a horrible noise. I know because I have a few in neighbors' yards where I live.
Use a Have a Heart trap with tuna fish for bait. Since it’s illegal to trap and relocate, you can easily shoot them once they have been caged. No worries that they’ll be returning unless you have really poor aim.
I can't believe you published this. I wouldn't want to see these innocent animals tortured and killed.
Lucille: Thank you for your post. These and all the other innocent animals, birds, etc. should NOT be tortured and killed!!!

After coming home one evening to find a raccoon in the process of killing my chickens, I don't find them to be cute at all. I tried lights but they still came around. So I moved on to other measures. I find that the most sure for way to get rid of them is to trap and kill. I live in the country so I dispose of them by leaving them for the buzzards.
this part of the article is wrong:
Plant enough corn for man and beast alike.
it doesn't matter how much you plant, they don't even eat much of it it they just enjoy stepping it into the mud and they can wreck a whole field of it in no time. planting more will not help.
I agree, it does not matter how much you grow they will destroy it. I planted 3000 plants last year and didn’t get one ear of corn. I used live traps and relocated to no avail. I will trap and kill this year. I had to pay last year to get rid of most of critters and totally makes you not want to grow your own food! Not a fan of raccoons or groundhogs!
