Your trek to the pumpkin patch may be a bit steamy this year. It looks as if The Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a warmer-than-normal autumn this year! In fact, it should be quite warm for the western half of the United States!

  • The Heartland (10)
  • Pacific Northwest (15) and Intermountain (13)
  • Texas-Oklahoma (11) and High Plains (12)
  • Pacific Southwest (16) and Desert Southwest (14)
  • Alaska (17)
  • Hawaii (18)

The regions listed below will be cooler-than-average for this time of year:

  • Southeast (4),  and Florida (5)
  • The Lower Lakes (6), Ohio Valley (7),
  • Appalachians (3)Atlantic Corridor (2)

The Northeast (1), the Deep South (region 8), and the Upper Midwest (9) will have average temperatures for this time of year compared to historical temperatures.

Our autumn-hued weather map provides the seasonal temperature outlook:

What about rainfall? For much of the central U.S., as well as Florida (in yellow on the map below), we should be prepared for below-average rainfall. .

The average temperatures and below-average rainfalls could translate to some pretty foliage in the Northeastern region. See our Fall Foliage Map here.

Hurricane season officially runs through November. We expect above-normal activity and the 2024 hurricane count to exceed last year’s. See more hurricane predictions.

We’re expecting a warm November overall from the Great Lakes over to much of the East Coast to the central and northern Plains. Along the Gulf Coast, though, it will likely turn out a little cooler than normal. It will be on the chilly side from the Rockies over toward Washington State, while it will likely be warmer than normal from Oregon down to California. Across Canada, temperatures will mainly be near or above normal, with the exception of southern British Columbia.
