Squirrels planted two black walnut trees next door to me. One of the trees towers over into my backyard. While it's a beautiful tree, I wish it wasn't there.
The squirrels eat the walnuts, they will chew the green cover off, and leave the droppings all over the place, which in turn will literally turn the ground black underneath. It all smells very lemon/limey pungent. Not pleasant.
I can hear the walnuts falling while inside my house, I would estimate that I pick up at least 1,000 of them, pheww a lot of work. I take extra precaution when they are filling, if one was to hit me on the head it would definitely hurt.
My Japanese Maple died that had thrived for years and years prior to the walnut tree growing.
And some years, NO WALNUTS whatsoever!! This year (2024) being one of them, hooray!
