I have been container gardening for close to 30 years and I have to disagree on the container thing. If you use straight potting mix in your containers - especially for tomatoes- the roots get too hot and you have to water at least twice a day on hot days i.e. mid 80’s and higher. (I live in MT). I mix my potting soil at approximately 50% / 50% potting soil and garden soil that’s been enriched with dead leaves and yard waste the previous year or 2. I mainly grow tomatoes, carrots and radishes and they always do well. By mixing in the garden soil with the potting soil it keeps the roots nice & cool and I only have to water once a day!
