I love this question :) I almost always refer to plants as she and have for many years now. One of my first herbal teachers, Susan Weed, talked about the energy of plants and the idea that they have a personality and can feel our energy when we work with them. After studying with Susan and getting to know plants in a deeper way, calling them an "it" didn't resonate with me anymore. Just like calling any human an it would feel strange. As for choosing she over he, it's simply how I feel about the plant. I encourage anyone out there to cultivate their own relationship with the plants they use. It makes life with the plants come alive in a new way.
