I admire your determination to continue gardening. What stands out most to me is your comment about "without doing any preserving." Does this include freezing, too? The berries and grapes are easily washed and frozen. Many vegetables can be blanched or cooked then frozen cubed, sliced, or pureed (I do this for pumpkins). Apples, peaches, and presumably other fruits made into pie filling can be frozen and can come in very handy for a quick pie or turnovers. A lot of soups and stews can be frozen. If this method is not feasible, then the rural market and/or Bill's suggestions are good options. Best of luck!
