I would hope this author would know about strawberries, in the farmer's markets, and in the grocery stores. They are number 1, in the list of the "Dirty Dozen"! They are sprayed heavily, with pesticides, herbicides, just a huge cocktail of chemicals! They may look huge and beautiful in the grocery store, but don't look, their poison!
I myself, grow ORGANIC strawberries, with NO chemicals used at all, and I would suggest people grow them, themselves! In the ground, or in pots, they'll taste MARVELOUS!
I place a airy net over them, sometimes, to keep bugs, from eating holes in the leaves. And then each year, I take my compost that I make with fruit and vegetable scraps, grass, leaves, etc, and when mixed, and with time, you have a beautiful dark color, wonderful soil, to feed your plants. I'm always amazed, how the next day, the leaves are absolutely GREEN, and beautiful! You can tell, they loved it! And of course, gotta keep the weeds out...but I love my strawberries! They are so huge, beautiful, and tasty, I have to wonder, if Monsanto had gotten to them! Lol. But no, it just takes some tender loving care to make them happy.
Remember, no grocery store strawberries, and no farmer's market strawberries! Buy the organic ones, or better yet, grow your own organic ones, and you'll be glad you did! (Goes for any food, or drink, you put into your body, actually!)
