I was born in 1934, 65 years after the Civil War. I lived next door to a wonderful Black lady who was the daughter of slaves. We were all poor at that time. I cut my foot on a broken glass jar when I was maybe 5 years old. We could not afford a doctor. My neighbor knew medical treatments taught to her by her parents from Africa. She used kerosene and spider webs and something else I cannot remember. My badly cut foot healed with no complications.
