When you buy cabbage from the grocery store, wash it when you get home, and wrap it in paper towels and then inside a produce bag or plastic bag. Change the paper towels in a day or so. I just peel off the leaves I want to use and chop them. Then wrap it back in the paper towels and plastic bag and store again in your crisper. Your head of cabbage will last for weeks this way and won't turn black on the edges if you had sliced it. Great for people who don't want to use a whole head of cabbage at once. I do this with celery and lettuce too. Somehow wrapping them in paper towels averts spoiling.
