Giant purple hyssop is a wonderful perennial that also reseeds. It can get quite tall, so it is a great background element, and looks gorgrous in a mixed cottage garden, with blackeyed susans, cone flowers, scarlet beebalm, and shasta daisies.
Bonus #1: With its lucious anise scent, deer and rabbits give your garden a wide berth, as they hate the smell.
Bonus #2: You can use the leaves to make a delicous tea.
