Barbara Pleasant

Gardener, Author & Plant Enthusiast

Barbara Pleasant gardens, cooks, and writes from her mountaintop home along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Floyd, Virginia. With what she describes as a “primal need for interaction with plants,” Barbara tends a vibrant garden filled with flowers, vegetables, herbs, and a lush zoysia lawn—all lovingly cultivated in rocky clay soil enriched with organic matter.

She is the author of Homegrown Pantry and many other beloved gardening books, including contributions to Gardening for Dummies and Annuals for Dummies. Over her prolific career, Barbara has written a dozen books solo and collaborated on a dozen more, always with a passion for making gardening approachable and rewarding.

Her writing also appears regularly in Mother Earth News, The Herb Companion, and Carolina Gardener, where she shares practical advice, seasonal insights, and stories from her own backyard.
