Naturalist, Author, & Bird Whisperer
Alfred G. Martin spent more than fifty years developing gentle techniques to earn the trust of wild birds—methods he shares in his engaging and insightful book, Hand-Taming Wild Birds at the Feeder. His deep connection with nature began at the age of ten, when he learned to tame songbirds while working for a bird trapper in England. His life journey took him from the woodlands of England to the urban wilds of Greenwich Village, before he ultimately settled in the Maine woods in 1948.
There, surrounded by lakes, mountains, and wildlife, Alfred built his own home and lived in harmony with the natural world until the end of his life. His love and understanding of wild creatures—especially birds—shaped a unique legacy of patience, respect, and wonder that continues to inspire readers today.
