Here in Nova Scotia, the deer have set up permanent residence in the towns. In the worst cases, like in Truro and Yarmouth, they travel on the sidewalks and cross at intersections! It is not uncommon to see 5-8 together. They are a scourge on the gardens and many have just thrown in the towel in despair. If you cannot afford (or refuse to hide behind) an 8-foot fence, the deer simply mow through the gardens.
It has gotten bad enough that even deer resistant plants are far from a guarantee.
On the other hand, I live only 7km outside of town, in a rural area, and the deer are not an issue. Fingers crossed that they don’t find me anytime soon!
